Season 1: Episode 2 – Shabbat

How did the First episode go? Did it move your heart? [insert cheesy song] teehee

Seems like our title for this episode is a bit of serious isn’ it? but come to think of it this way, how important was it for us to be informed that their Shabbat is very Holy that it is shown on what you are about to read/watch!

Before I continue, let me remind you that links I gave were with advertisement will directly go to their YouTube Episode since it was recorded live but if you don’t want those extras, better download their app and you can repeatedly watch it with no distraction but on their episode two, they have a super short announcement about their paying if forward drive which can deeply help fund and raise the awareness, hope you can help them like I just did with what is due to my budget as of the moment 🙈 ok let’s go back.

So, Shabbat in the chosen is their Jewish Sabbath or also known as a day of prayer. It is the time to rest and honor three things: family, people, and God. It’s like a day of appreciation and thanksgiving to our God who created everything in his image and likeness for 6 days that you may read in Genesis 1. Then as you read further on Genesis 2:3

That’s what the subject on this episode is all about so let’s end this discussion! Kidding.

But technically it revolves in it and you could see how their era takes time to prepare that celebration. In our generation, can we give an hour of our praise on our 7th day every week? Just as going to mass, maybe you can bump me at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel :]

From here forwards starts my episode writing

Chinnereth 948 BC

Eli, the kid questioning why every 7 days is it to be done? Here is a link as well for you that you may read about Sabbath in the Bible.

This was a good response of the mother [the woman of valor mentioned can be read at Proverbs 31:10-31] to her son “We rest because He rested on the 7th day. We rest to refresh our souls, to know Him better.” And spoken that he may be like “Ephraim and Manasseh can find their names at Genesis 41:51-52 – read as it had a meaning behind their names.

A Father to a daughter mentioned the names Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah.

Maybe you may use their names for your future children? YEY to babies ‘coz they’re cute and cuddly. Anyways let’s go back to business, teehee.

Maybe their parents mentioned it so that their kids may follow the footsteps of the names spoken. In here, the chosen would show scenes how they value Shabbat as to talking about the scriptures they have whole-heartedly follow and share to their thanksgiving with a prayer as they share blessings of food. It’s like a feast during their Shabbat day.

Insert introduction of their song – you may download their OST on their site 🙂

Mary is now interacting with other women with a pleasant aura then a pharisee saw her and was able to recognize that she was the one in the red quarters then he had this disbelief on what he saw.

From Episode 1, if you recall when Simon and Andrew were taxed? Matthew would want to verify on his report since Quintus’ name was mentioned, He did go to see him without hesitation unlike his partner, Gaius.

Gaius is just afraid of Matthew’s attempt to verify since he knows how their system goes and whom he is about to deal with (Quintus’ capabilities). Think of it as the government, that can hide off all of your problems as long as you have a good connection or such power. Then if you happen to be a whistleblower might as well change your identity ‘coz they’ll just shut you off :/

Matthew on the other was pretty much confident that he can pull it off since he has documents to prove it and most probably concerned that of the deal done with Simon and Quintus. But moving forward to Gaius that is just playing safe in their industry that’s why he tries to stop Matthew’s idea – but failed.

Gaius leaving his words to Matthew, you’re a fool 🙁 but come to think of it, Matthew was just trying to be honest and couldn’t understand Gaius thought.

Quintus then appears that a publicanus is requesting for a meeting which they usually have an escort, a centurion. Publicanus = Tax collectors that are contractual.

Quintus has these dark jokes of, why should I not kill you first? After requesting an urgent meeting. So from that scene, you would notice how they act since time is precious for them and just wants the right to point of the report. Quintus then answered Matthew’s question that it is all forgiven and ending their meeting, this just confirms all of Matthew’s verification but… Laws can be twisted and be done with a deal, sad reality as we still have that kind of system.

Matthew then reacted that he does not find Simon reliable, that made Quintus caught his attention. Adding the thought that he made a bad deal with Simon since Matthew mentioned about his gambling and financial status. Matthew then honestly just wanted to say, he doesn’t believe that Quintus has an accurate understanding of what Simon can deliver.

Quintus then finds Matthew admires with his keen observation and honesty of the situation that saved them from possible loss of job/life. Matthews’s act of bravery that could stand up to the roman empire makes his character fascinating in this series.

Quintus then instructed Matthew for a special assignment, which will be mentioned soon.

As a transition of the Story about Simon and Andrew, here comes a scene wherein Simon is splurging some of his savings to gain network, these are the names of the people mentioned in their feast than can be found in the bible for your reference and study. If it’s not in the table, probably I wasn’t able to find a reference to it [peace sign]

Did you notice who Simon is talking with? Merchants/fishermen and their names as you read their history have positions in the bible. Since he needs help in the sea Let’s add John and James – typical names but they are both fishermen, sons of Zebedee.

Words from Andrew’s observation of what is Simon is doing: fattening your lambs before the slaughter maybe it is connected to this reading, James 5:1-6.

Andrew then again tells Simon that what his doing is not a game, that feeling of financial freedom – a reprieve from doom they are about to face.

This is the part where we can see social climbers in the real world.

Let’s check out the other characters then, here Nicodemus was disturbed by Shmuel, from writing his journal study about demons and exorcism.

Shmuel urgently reporting that Nicodemus is being called by the judges of Sanhedrin – their kind of supreme court council. Av beit di, on the other hand,  is their chief of the court.

They immediately went to see them due to an informal inquiry about a miracle about Yussif’s testimony about the woman from the Red Quarter whom Nicodemus gave rites that she was redeemed.

As Yussif described the woman as perfectly restored and radiant which he was certain as he spoke.

Av Beit Din wanted to send the great news about what happened but Nicodemus requested to investigate and it himself. To see is believe as we would do.

His permission was granted but asked the reason for his reticence of the matter. Nicodemus then calmly replied that it may have a tentative hold, that it could come as a shock for her to be poured over by their judges. News of this kind of matter grows legs a nice idiomatic expression that gossips may spread fast

Simon and Andrew observing the Sea in the middle of the night, grabbing some advantage if they could get a chance to steal, I guessed. They mentioned some names that you could look up in the Bible.

Now Nicodemus is about to investigate himself about the woman that he tried to help in the red quarters that was reported to be healed.

Gaius noticed Matthew’s state of might have been abuse by an unhappy citizen expressing disapproval which instructed him to go home but on Matthew’s defense, he has work to do and would not allow to shirking responsibility. That’s why in episode one he would even hire someone to bring him to his district safely.

Gaius then said Jews are odd as Matthew replied, people are (generally speaking he is right). It’s just sad that his father would tell that he has no son that makes him feel like an outcast and responsibly focused on his job.

Mary had a short guessing game of what she got, but her fellow girls weren’t able to guess the Shabbat candles. Since it’s been a long while for her to host one, and I think she is doing this for her praise and worship that she has now been saved. Mary chucklingly said she barely remembered to do it.

Her friend then urges her to start as early as she can coz it might take her all afternoon to prepare. Bread is important to them so her friend offered to her make one.

Nicodemus approached Lilith, coz that’s what he knew, but was ignored since it’s not her real name. So, he calmly introduced himself as the one who administered her and explained that she seemed to have experienced a miracle. She entertained Nicodemus as she was called Mary after she told her real name.

Mary covered herself knowing that she is interviewed by a pharisee since Nicodemus was just eager to know how things happened for her after his ritual. Mary simply replied that it was someone else who called her Mary along with words “I am His”, she told Nicodemus she doesn’t know the name and even if she knew she won’t let others know since his time for men to know has not yet come.

Nicodemus amazed that the man who healed her seeks no credit. Let’s be like Christlike – HUMBLE.

Mary left some words to Nicodemus, “I was one way.. and now I am completely different. And the thing that happened in between was Him” and graciously saying: So yes, I will know Him for the rest of my life.

Gratitude is my reflection towards how Mary is excited to go home since she plans to host a Shabbat dinner which left Nicodemus with a smile of contentment.

Now we go to Eden and Simon as they have a couple’s argument, which we can say is normal since Eden doesn’t know what’s happening with Simon’s know-about like he is hiding something. It hurts further for Eden that Simon is not giving some time to their God since Simon plans to fish on Shabbat night.

Simon saying that he got this situation, which makes Eden unhappy since she doesn’t like how Simon doesn’t respect God. No man is an island, guys! You’ll need God’s guidance in everything we do and as for the couple – Please make sure to let your partner know your problems as well ‘coz you’re a team now, fighting crimes together and make The Lord the center of your love. Well based on my long distance relationship (LDR) experience and still going strong, thankfully! <3

It’s already evening and Matthew brings his dish to share with his family but as he got there, he just peeped outside the door of their house and saw her sister. He wasn’t invited after all and did not bother to knock – I’ll just reiterate what he and Gaius talked about not treated having a son by his father.

Nicodemus shared the significance of Hasmonean – 200yrs ago, we were ruled by the great king Antiochus IV of Titus and he suppressed the religious observances. It wasn’t until the Maccabees revolted and ushered the Hasmonean Dynasty that our worship was restored.

Mary’s guest on Shabbat day in his humble abode was Barnaby, Shula, James, and Thaddeus. She was then asked for whom shall be the extra seat for? She said for Elijah as she observed her mother doing it but it was only during for Passover as James commented that is done once a year at Sedar.

As Mary was about to read her letter or prayer, someone knocked…

And it was the man whom she was redeemed, Mary was shocked and never would have expected him.

And as he entered Mary’s place, James and Thaddeus stood up and acknowledge their Rabbi’s presence (Teacher).

Mary introduced the man to his friends who helped her and Shula agreed that Mary told us so much about you.

Mary finally got a chance to ask for his name.

Jesus of Nazareth, He replied.

Jesus encouraged Mary to Start their Shabbat session since it was her place. She then begins to read lines that you may have already read in Genesis – the Beginning. < then transition of scenes from a different place to another as they celebrate this holy evening>

Matthew, on the other hand, went back to his place and celebrated it with his loyal companion.

Then Simon left in the middle of their feast where he went out and meet some Roman soldiers.
