Season 1: Episode 3 – Jesus Loves Little Children

Now that we know his name, Jesus! The first scene of this episode is where He speaks to His Father “Glorify me with Yourself, speak through Me”

That part for me symbolizes that a child longing for his father’s love. Then through Him, as the child will be the reflection of a Father’s love for little children He’ll meet. Again, these are my opinionated observations to share and the story goes…

Morning at the Outskirts of Capernaum AD 26

A kid that caught her attention to a place where there seemed to be someone camping, she then looks on its belongings and saw some tools, played around with some of the crafts done, and even saw some food which she was tempted to eat but didn’t. This thus shows us how children can be so innocently curious.

She heard someone was coming so she scrambles behind the rocks to hide. Then as she was observing the man, Jesus, noticed her and she ran away frighteningly.

As the night begins to settle, Jesus prepares his evening chores by setting up the bonfire for him to cook his meals and made a bonfire to serve as his lighting in the evening. As you watch this part, imagine how advance we are right now compared to before, so let’s be thankful in all the days of our life.

On the other side of the story, the kid’s life, she gets to eat her dinner without worries as her parents would prepare food for their children but while she eats, her parents were concerned about their friend Joana and as they finished their discussion about it. The mother asked about Abigail’s day outside? I am not yet a parent but this is a good portrayal and healthy way to have a connection with your children.

Abigail replied to her mother that is was okay and asked permission to play with his friend, Joshua, the next day. Her parents allowed her as long as she finishes her chores but Abigail interrupted in agreement that she knows, still in a polite manner but cutting off between the sentence may be a bit rude for his dad. But over-all she was still obedient anyway and would follow them, she just seemed to be excited ‘coz she was allowed to go out near the stream.

Been noticing the washing of feet, it is a display of humility, aside from the other thought of hygiene purposes before entering a house in their era. Then Jesus prays before he sleeps. That should be one good habit that we should instill ourselves even if we get old.

Morning comes and Abigail is explaining to Joshua what she has seen and should expect at the outskirts of the man’s camp. She even told about her craving for food but did not take some. I would say that she was raised well to know how to control herself and be able to discern what is right from wrong at her certain age. Jokingly, she asked Joshua if he bought a knife just in case. LOL

When Abigail and Joshua arrived, they saw him praying for the blessing of his bread. A friend of mine told me to make it a good habit to bless your food since it’s a way of thanking your blessings you are to receive and remove bad spirits if there were.

Then the man prayed that 2 children come to visit, Abigail and Joshua will have the courage to say Shalom so they will know they do not have to remain in hiding.

Shalom is a way for them to greet each other, it is said that it means Peace, you can look into this site

The man made did silly noises that made the kids giggle in laughter and acted he heard some noise but doesn’t sound like a sheep, then Abigail stood up that made him greet them.

You may notice that He is a good man to advise kids like them that it’s not safe for a child to wander from their home, you’ll never know there are bad men around.

He continued as he said to Abigail that she was wise to bring a friend this time.

Abigail then introduced her tagged friend, Joshua.

When Jesus compliments Joshua, about his bravery and being a good friend to Abigail. Who doesn’t like to be complimented? I see that Jesus’ character uplifts one’s moral and we should praise each other too by being kind since we wouldn’t know their life situation

Jesus then introduced himself as a good man (did not mention his name yet) and told them they could stay a bit since He has work to do, He seemed to observably know that Abigail didn’t take any food when she went there. It is a way that Jesus represents that He could see all things that we do, like the Lord Our Father.

Jesus offered some food as courteous hospitality to gain some trust in the children. Abigail then asked some questions, turns out to be LOT of questions which are the following:

Abigail Jesus
What are you doing here? I’m visiting for a time
Where are you from? Nazareth
What is the wood for? (since Jesus was holding his craft) I’m building something
Are you a carpenter? Sometimes, but I’m a craftsman and I build all kinds of things
So why don’t you live in a house? I travel a lot

She was just innocently curios

She even ask about “How do you make money?” which Joshua interrupted not to ask any further since it may be too much nor reminding her to be sensitive.

Good thing, Jesus was just calm and loves to entertain children, He replied: “It’s okay, I don’t make money when I travel, so for now, I build things and trade them for food and clothing”

During their era their way of living and business is to trade their goods. Think about it if we could go back to exchanging goods for other goods? hmmm like what I do in mini garden 🙂 seed for a seed?

Abigail continued with her questions, like what was He holding? (he made a lock and key from wood) and I find it impressive! Jesus is just so talented! ... at the end of my thought well it’s Jesus!

What else will you build? His answer: Wealthy people love decorations and toys for their children.

Abigail then mentioned that her family isn’t wealthy. JESUS replied: MANY TIMES, THAT’S BETTER.

Abigail innocently said “I don’t know about that” but Jesus said, You will. Well I understood the point of view of Abigail if I were in her shoes, but don’t worry kid, for me at my age of maturity, Jesus was right YOU WILL.

Abigail then showed her toy which her mom made, Sarah. Then these obedient kids just scrambled to go home knowing that they might be scolded since it’s about to get dark.

Scenes at Night where you can witness how hardworking Jesus is staying up late to finish his crafts, like burning the midnight oil for most of us who has business and may need to earn extra, to make sure all goods to be sold the next day which perfectly done. This is just shows that Jesus is still a normal human person that needs to buy his needs but we all know He is spiritually protected.

And before sleeping, Jesus would always pray – which we should make a good habit!

So Morning came then Jesus woke up from his sleep with children looking to him and noticed Abigail brought more friends. She asked if it’s okay to stay and be around with Him.

Morning came then Jesus woke up from his sleep with children looking to him and noticed Abigail brought more friends. She asked if it's okay to stay and be around with Him.

Jesus allowed them but reminded them that He has work today so they will be of good assistants, which the kids happily agreed. I must say that they got the best mentor to be around with

Since there are new friends, they had new questions~

Children Jesus
How long are you going to stay here? Until it is time for me to go
What’s that? (Since Jesus was doing his hygiene routine, brushing teeth) Well I have some work to do, some people to meet then I will know the right time
Are you dangerous? Maybe to some, but NO, not to you and I won’t harm anyone
Do you have friends? A few and more to come
Do you have a house? My Father provides everything I need,
Is your Father rich? That is a question for another time
What is your favorite food? I like so many different foods but I especially love bread for many reasons

Now this time, Jesus asked them: Do you know how to pray the Shema? Children: YES

Jesus then assigned to lead and recite it. Their Shema when recited is condensed and bit shortened but you could read it further at Deuteronomy 6.

Hear, Israel. The Lord is our God, The Lord is one, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your might.

And it shall come to pass, if you surely listen to the commandment, I command you today that you may gather in your grain, your wine, and your oil and you will be satisfied. I am the Lord your God who led you from the land of Egypt to be a God to you

I am the Lord your God Amen

THE CHOSEN version of SHEMA

SHEMA is a Jewish Prayer, Taken from their Torah and regarded as their important prayer in Judaism.

So after that, they kids continued their questions:

Why don’t you have a home (which was repeatedly questioned) His answer: My home is many places

Why? His answer: because I have a much larger job than just being a craftsman or a teacher

You are a teacher too? His answer: I will be soon

What other jobs? His answer: Everyone has a much larger job than just their trade and you are more than just students

You are at school to show love to one another and to take God’s word, and to share it.

And at home, to honor your father and mother

And most important from the law of Moses to love who?

Joshua: The Lord your God, with all your heart

These are mostly found in the 10 commandments that can be read in Exodus 20

Children contented and went home then while traveling they would talk about Jesus and his wondrous works (at the end of the day, old or young, we will continue to gossip the new person whom we meet)

Abigail who brought them there took the lead and told everyone not to tell anyone about Him

The next scene was Jesus teaching them how to fish, a new prayer, songs, and other things they may need to learn in life.

Notice Jesus’ outfit with the dark brown like cloak that is sleeveless, it seems like the scene when He met Mary on episode one, so to connect on what he mentioned about meeting a meet a friend (most of the episodes are interconnected and that makes me fall in love with thoughts to how they made the chosen) all Italicized are opinions.

So, there is this scene wherein Jesus asks the kid what he did to a situation when he was pushed.

The kid said that he revenges back by pushing hard that his opponent fell. Jesus then said that’s why you are punished. Did you expect something different?

The kid giving his reason that Torah says eye to eye.

Jesus said that “that saying is for the judge. All of you are to be special. You have to act differently than others.

Joshua butted in that you told us to be gentle but Rabbi Josiah said Messiah would lead us against the Romans that he will be a great military leader

Jesus responded that it is important to respect your teachers and honor your parents and rabbi Josiah is a smart man.

Many times, smart men lack wisdom.

Is there anything in the scripture that says Messiah will be a great military leader?

There are many things in the scripture that you cannot understand yet, and that is okay, that is fine.

Jesus continues: You have many years ahead of you. And God does not reveal all things at once.

But, children, what if many of the things that our people think about how we are to behave and how are we to treat one another are wrong? Jesus went back to the kid that pushes his enemy. “You want things to be fair. When someone wrongs you, you want to make it right.

Jesus asked: And you know who else loves justice? He then points up the heavens

But what does the law says about justice and vengeance? Which Abigail raised her hand and said “Vengeance is mine”

The Lord loves justice but maybe it is not ours to handle – this is where I insert karma as we most know.

Jesus then tells the story of David having a chance to kill King Saul who was evil to him, but he didn’t. Saul was God’s anointed and it was not the right time for justice and God says he will have compassion on His people when what? He asked. You may read about the story in the bible with this link.

Abigail again raised her hand but jokingly Jesus asked for others who goes to school which Abigail does not. Joshua raised his and answer “when their strength is gone?”

Yes very good, So. Maybe we led God to provide the justice. Maybe we handle these things differently. Not trying to be the strongest all the time – It just shows that let God Handle this since we don’t have the right to judge anyone but only Him and trust His process

So, a girl asked “even the Messiah?”

Jesus said then will see, and don’t expect the Messiah to come to Jerusalem on a tall horse carrying weapons. And he will be most please with those of you who are peacemakers

The cute smallest girl asked where He went yesterday?

He answered, I have to stay in town, later on, There was a woman who needed my help.

Did you build something for her asked by another kid since they notice Jesus was a great craftsman. He said No, but do you remember when I said that I have a job that is bigger than my trade?

There was a woman who has had much pain in her life and she was in trouble, so I helped her. [And that was Mary]

Is she your friend? She is now and I have CHOSEN her and others and more soon in traveling.

So, what if they don’t like you? He answered: many won’t, this is my reason being here. This is the second time he answered many won’t, look like the wanted to emphasize this phrase.

Abigail innocently said that she still doesn’t understand and what’s his reason for being here?

I’m telling you this because even though you are children, and the elders in your life have lived longer, many times adults need the faith of children. And if you hold on to this faith, really tightly, someday soon you will understand all of what I am saying to you.

Then Jesus answered the most important last question mentioned.

The reason that I am here is for all of you.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, He anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering sight to the blind to set at liberty those who are oppressed. To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

I have loved spending time with you, you are all so very special and I hope that my next students ask the same questions you do and that they listen to my answers. But I suspect they do not have the understanding you do. And I hope that when the time comes, they will tell others about Me as you have.

Jesus that night was crafting something since it was the last meeting with the children.

Abigail went to Jesus place by herself just to check it out, but found out that he was gone, she noticed that he left something, which was some toys and a letter written on wood since there was no paper and pen that time.

The letter says, Abigail, I know you can read, you are very special. I did not come only for the wealthy. A way for Jesus to clarify that he caters to all of us and no one is left behind. Jesus loves little children and to leave something behind for Abigail is a way to share her toy and lessons that will make him remembered.

What’s your take away from this story?

I would say, The CHOSEN, depicted this episode on more of Jesus’ humanity —his need to sleep, eat, and the way he laughs and works with the children. Thus also reflects how The Lord reflects loves us through his child, Jesus. Let’s all should be unique in a Christ-like manner, remember – we are all loved.
